Introduction   

       The  Celts were a group of people who originated in Central Europe ,who occupied lands stretching from the British Isles to Gallatia and became a distinct “people” in the Iron Age. Their cultural traditions are not dead and gone, but remain mostly obscure for the mayority of the people.

       Through looking at the history, culture an art forms of the Celts, you will experience a fascinating journey into the Celtic Culture that will help you to understand and appreciate the richness of their traditions and their influence in today`s world.

 

Task

You will take on the role  of an investigative  journalist as you explore  the history of the Celts. On your discovery journey you will learn about the beginnings and evolution of their traditions.   Your task  is to create a magazine  designed to inform people about the Celtic culture. Working  in a team and playing roles, you will research several websites to collect information. Once the research is completed, you will write several articles, reflecting the history, traditions and art forms of the Celts as well as their influence in today`s world.

Process

1-Once you have chosen  your group to work with, each of you will need  to choose one of the following roles:

 

Historian: Research into the history of the Celts. Learn about their origins, social structure and ways of life.

Druid:  Research into the Celtic Religion, their beliefs and sacrificial rituals as well as the importance of the Druid in their lives.

Musician:  Research the Celtic art forms,  their oral folktales, their traditional crafts and the origins of  “Celtic music”.

Journalist:  Research the influence of the Celtic Culture in today`s world, such as the origins of Halloween or the Summer Solstice.

 

2-Conduct the Internet search for your role using the resources provided.

3-Once you have finished your research, determine which pieces of information are more useful and then begin writing the first draft of your article.

4-You must assume staff roles to organize the material and decide about the design of your magazine.When all your writing is complete, your group will meet to create your magazine.

Conclusion

By completing  this Webquest, you have looked closely at Celtic culture and hopefully you have adquired a lot more knowledge about their history, traditions and arts. Ideally, you may have developed a richer vision of the  world and have got  new insights into the importance of keeping ancient cultures alive.
